So basically he uses a combination of online marketing strategies to make money, including affiliates. The site above is all links to external sites where he gets money for sending business - affiliate marketing, plain and simple. I'm well aware that this can generate money, since I've worked in internet marketing for several years.

Ok, you know more than me about Google searches. When I did a DNS lookup to find out who ran the az food stamps site, I found that Pascal has 150 domains. I estimate probably half of these are sites teaching people how to collect welfare. Here is Pascal's other site, detailing how he uses the internet to make money:

http://classisin.net/

Pascal says he is from British Columbia, but he looks Hispanic, or Arabic, to me. Pascal could be running the welfare sites out of solidarity with people he knows who have fallen on hard times.

I don’t know if Pascal is using any SEO,

Yes, and it's VERY over-done. It looks quite spammy to me.

but his AZ food stamps website is ranked #2 behind the official site in a Google search for the terms “Arizona Food Stamps”.

Competition for that search phrase is 436,000 in Google, which is not a lot. Last month it got only 9,900 Google searches in the United States, which is pitiful. Most of the people searching for it were probably not the type who could afford to spend any money online, so I wonder why he's going through all the trouble of trying to rank for that keyword if he's not going to be able to sell anything to the people who click through to his site.

ps. When checking Google rankings, you need to sign out of your Google account, then delete all cookies / block all cookies, clear session cookies, and repeat the search without all the excess stuff in address bar and adding &gl=us.

The problem with counters, sitemeters and widgets of all kinds is that they’re all about stroking one’s ego by helping one count the number of people who read his words.

Bear in mind that I have no problem stroking my own ego on this matter. There isn't much to stroke when it comes to the internet for me anyway. Sadly, despite the desire for some ego-stroking, my own blog remains without a Sitemeter widget.

On an unrelated matter, take a look at this guy:

http://pascalbergeron.com/pascal-bergeron/28

I found the man because I was investigating how easy it is for people to file for food stamps in AZ, but not for my own use. I found that the man had put up the following site, and is working on one for every state in the union, with more to follow for other forms of welfare:

Oh come on. You’ll consider screwing a girl who has had sex in India, but a sitemeter widget is unkosher? WTF? Can you imagine how many rare, undocumented forms of VD there must be floating around the Indian Subcontinent?

I'd do more than consider screwing a girl who has had sex in India. I screw girls who've had sex in India with some regularity - with protection (I get tested for VD at least twice a year and I've never had one). The problem with counters, sitemeters and widgets of all kinds is that they're all about stroking one's ego by helping one count the number of people who read his words. I'm a professional SEO; I can make a website easily that will get millions and millions of visitors. But what's the point? I'm content just to write what I think and let people read it if they want.

I’m often amazed at how some little business that seems insignificant can make serious money. Large enterprises on the other hand can be surprisingly unprofitable.

Unprofitable big companies only seem unprofitable to you because you're not drawing a salary from them. Anyway, bankruptcy has proven recently to be most profitable.

At the time I thought that the DS kiosk was a fluke

Those kiosks are not a fluke. They're everywhere and the kids in them make serious money.

That’s the other thing, get a Sitemeter widget!

Ew, gross. Never.

I saw one of those Dead Sea kiosks at a mall here in AZ, with a young Israeli girl selling some sort of facial product. At the time I thought that the DS kiosk was a fluke, and didn't think there was that much demand for such a product. In fact, I think one of the kiosks was attacked in Denmark.

Anyway, I'm babbling.

Israeli youths tend to travel wherever it's cheapest to go. When they come to America, it's typically to sell Dead Sea products in kiosks in American shopping malls - ie, to make a couple thousand dollars in a short period of time, so they can continue and travel for half a year in some really cheap country.

Am I the only person that visits your blog?

Last time I checked, this site was getting about 50 visits a day.
